TeaTopia
Used tea bags, fabric, pvc piping
Private Collection
Confronted daily by single use items and mountains of waste destined for landfill, TeaTopia started as a playful challenge, taking the ugliest rubbish bin pieces and finding new life.
Used tea bags were dried before the careful extraction of tea. The resulting tissue like fabric was flattened and individually hand dyed, hundreds of mini canvases fluttering in the breeze.
Over 90% of the finished garment was created using discarded, recycled or reclaimed materials. The consumption of tea and preservation of used tea bags was a community effort, resulting in a noticeable shift in the attitudes towards rubbish.
