ARTIST STATEMENT:

Checkmate Brewing is a sculptural work illustrating an alternate use for a common household item – the tea bag.

Made from reclaimed, dried and patiently dismantled tea bags, the creative process has many similarities to the game of chess itself. Time, patience, strategy, meditative repetition and problem solving are all at play.

I hope the sculptural material surprises the viewer and encourages them to pause and reflect before sending their next contribution to local landfill.

Man VS Environment … At checkmate we lose the opportunity to choose a way forward. The chance to alter our behaviour and influence the outcome has passed.
